Dubai’s du is building a $544 million hyperscale data center with Microsoft as the main customer

The UAE company, Emirates Integrated Telecommunications (du), announced on Tuesday that it is building a large data center worth $544.5 million (AED 2 billion). Microsoft will be the main tenant.

New Data Center

Microsoft will be the main tenant in the new data center in Dubai. The center will be built in phases to gradually increase its capacity.

Hyperscale data centers are large facilities that provide extensive data storage and cloud computing services to businesses.

The deal is an important step in helping the UAE’s digital transformation, according to du CEO Fahad Al Hassawi.

du runs five data centers in the UAE, offering secure and scalable services for digital applications.

Financial Results

du reported a 49% increase in net profit for 2024, reaching a record $678 million (AED 2.5 billion).

Revenue grew by 7.3% to $4 billion (AED 14.6 billion), surpassing their forecast.

The telecom company also announced its highest-ever annual dividend of 54 fils per share, a 59% increase from last year.

Microsoft in the UAE

Abu Dhabi has signed a long-term deal with Microsoft and Core42, a company under G42, to create a sovereign cloud system. This will help speed up the city’s digital and AI development.

The new system will improve government services by handling over 11 million digital interactions daily between government agencies, citizens, residents, and businesses.

This project supports Abu Dhabi’s goal of becoming the world’s first fully AI-powered government by 2027.
