Jordan Starts Aqaba Blue Ventures and Global Ocean Center at UN Ocean Conference
Jordan has launched Aqaba Blue Ventures and the Global Centre for Ocean Regeneration. These projects aim to test new technologies that can later be used around the world.
Jordan’s Announcements
King Abdullah II of Jordan made an important announcement at the third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), held in Nice, France.
He said coral reefs are very important for ocean life and for protecting coastlines. They also help fisheries and bring in a lot of money for economies around the world. But, coral reefs are in danger and need urgent care.
The King shared that coral reefs in the Gulf of Aqaba are very strong, even in very hot conditions. This makes them a great place to study and find ways to help reefs everywhere.
To support this, Jordan is setting up a Global Centre for Ocean Regeneration. This center will test new ideas and technologies that can be used around the world. It already has a new coral farm and a large 3D printer to help rebuild damaged reefs.
The week-long conference is hosted by France and Costa Rica and includes leaders, officials, and experts from many countries.
Bahrain’s Participation
Bahrain’s Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, and the Prime Minister’s Office Director General, Hamad Yaqoub Al Mahmeed, also attended the event, according to Bahrain News Agency.
Al Mubarak said Bahrain is working on many projects to meet its national development goals. One key goal is to protect the environment. Bahrain has a plan called “Blueprint Bahrain” that aims to reach carbon neutrality by 2060.
He also said Bahrain supports international efforts to fight climate change and is committed to protecting natural resources and promoting sustainable growth.
What to Watch For
The main goal of the conference is to agree on a global plan, called the “Nice Ocean Action Plan.” This plan will focus on saving the oceans and promoting eco-friendly ocean-based industries.
