Egyptian Companies Sign Deal With Chinese Firms to Build Phosphoric Acid Plant

A group of Egyptian companies has signed final agreements with Chinese companies to build a phosphoric acid factory in Egypt’s New Valley Governorate, according to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

Project Overview

The total investment for the project is $658 million. The goal is to make better use of Egypt’s natural resources, especially phosphate ore. In the first phase, the factory will produce 250,000 tons of high-quality phosphoric acid every year using phosphate from the Abu Tartour mines.

The Egyptian companies involved are Abu Qir Fertilizers, East Gas, Misr Phosphate, Petrojet, and Enpi. The project is managed by the Abu Tartour Phosphoric Acid Company.

Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi said this project is an important step forward. It will move Egypt from just mining raw materials to building advanced industries that add more value and open new opportunities.

The Governor of New Valley, Mohamed Al-Zamlout, said the project will create many direct and indirect jobs and make the area more attractive for industrial investment. This will support economic and urban growth in the region.

The Minister and Governor attended the signing of key agreements, including one with the Chinese group CSCEC/ECEC, which will build the factory.

Other Recent Projects

Last week, the Ministry also announced that Egypt gave out six new oil and gas exploration blocks to global energy companies. These are in the Mediterranean, Nile Delta, and North Sinai.

The contracts were awarded by EGAS (Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company) and are expected to bring in about $245 million in investments. The plan includes drilling at least 13 wells.

The awarded blocks include four offshore areas in the Mediterranean and two onshore areas in the Nile Delta and North Sinai.
