Jordan Makes History by Qualifying for FIFA World Cup for the First Time After Beating Oman 3-0
Jordan qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time by beating Oman 3-0. South Korea also secured their place in the 2026 World Cup by winning 2-0 against Iraq.
Jordan qualifies for the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Jordan’s win against Oman gave them four points more than Iraq, with only one game left to play. This means Jordan is now in the top two of their group in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) qualifiers. Because of this, Jordan will go straight to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Since a win gives 3 points, Iraq cannot catch up to Jordan even if they win their last game. So, Jordan is guaranteed a top-two spot in the group.
Jordan is three points behind South Korea. South Korea also qualified after beating Iraq. South Korea, led by Tottenham player Son Heung-min, is going to its 11th World Cup in a row.
Jordan’s coach is Jamal Sellami, who used to play for Morocco. Jordan almost qualified in 2014 but lost in the playoffs. They also finished second in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
The 2026 World Cup will have 48 teams for the first time. Before, it had 32 teams from 1998 to 2022.
Uzbekistan makes its first World Cup
Uzbekistan also qualified for the first time after a 0-0 draw with the UAE. This draw gave them enough points to finish second in their group behind Iran.
Now, ten teams have qualified for the 2026 World Cup: Argentina, Japan, Jordan, New Zealand, Iran, South Korea, Uzbekistan, and the host countries US, Canada, and Mexico.

Qatar’s Local Organizing Committee announced that the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup will have a prize fund over $36.5 million, more than the $25.5 million in 2021. The tournament will happen from December 1 to 18 and will include men’s teams from 22 Arab countries in Asia and Africa.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the US will have a total prize of $1 billion. The winning team can get up to $125 million.
Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup, and Morocco will co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
