Jordan to Host Meeting with US and Syria on Rebuilding Efforts

Jordan will host a meeting with the US and Syria on Tuesday to talk about rebuilding Syria while ensuring its security, stability, and independence, according to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.

Who will attend

The meeting will include Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, US Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrick, and other officials from the three countries.

This meeting continues from talks Jordan hosted on July 19 about keeping a ceasefire in Syria’s southern Sweida province and solving the crisis there.

In those earlier talks, the three sides agreed on steps such as deploying Syrian forces in Sweida, freeing detainees, promoting reconciliation, and allowing humanitarian aid. Safadi and Barrick welcomed Syria’s promise to punish those behind attacks on civilians and supported efforts to fight violence, sectarianism, and hate speech.

The new meeting comes after violence in Sweida increased in June following clashes between local Druze fighters, government forces, and Bedouin militias.

Syria’s recent investment deals

Last week, Syria signed agreements with international companies for 12 big projects worth $14 billion to rebuild after 14 years of war.

The deals were announced at the People’s Palace in Damascus in the presence of President Ahmad al-Sharaa. They include:

  • $4 billion redevelopment of Damascus International Airport with Qatar’s UCC Holding

  • $2 billion Damascus Metro project with the UAE’s National Investment Corporation

  • $2 billion Damascus Towers project with Italy’s UBAKO

  • $500 million Baramkeh Towers

  • $60 million Baramkeh Mall

Barrick attended the ceremony, highlighting Damascus’s importance as a hub for trade and regional links.

In July, Saudi Arabia signed 47 investment deals worth $6.4 billion with Syria, including $2.9 billion for infrastructure and real estate. Also in July, Syria’s port authority signed an $800 million deal with the UAE’s DP World to upgrade Tartous Port and develop trade zones.
