UAE’s ADNOC Signs 15-Year LNG Deal With Indian Oil

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has signed a 15-year deal with Indian Oil Corporation (IndianOil) to supply 1 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) every year.

The LNG will mainly come from ADNOC’s new Ruwais LNG project, now being built in Al Ruwais Industrial City, and set to start operations in 2028. This agreement upgrades an earlier preliminary deal into a final contract.

By 2029, IndianOil will be ADNOC’s biggest LNG customer, receiving 2.2 million tons each year — 1.2 million tons from ADNOC’s Das Island facility and 1 million tons from Ruwais.

Under the contract, LNG shipments can go to any port in India, helping meet the country’s rising energy demand and improving energy security.

The Ruwais LNG project will be the first in the Middle East to run on clean power, making it one of the lowest-carbon LNG plants in the world. It will have two production units with a total capacity of 9.6 million tons per year, more than doubling ADNOC Gas’ current output.

The deal also shows stronger energy ties between the UAE and India under their 2022 Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which boosted trade and cooperation.

“This long-term deal with IndianOil highlights the strong energy partnership between the UAE and India,” said Rashid Khalfan Al Mazrouei, ADNOC’s senior VP of marketing.

Extra Fact

ADNOC Gas, ranked 11th on Forbes Middle East’s Top 100 Listed Companies 2025, announced in late 2024 that it plans to take over ADNOC’s 60% share in the Ruwais LNG project by 2028. Once completed, ADNOC Gas’ total LNG capacity will rise to around 15 million tons per year.

So far, over 8 million tons of Ruwais’ capacity has already been booked by international buyers under long-term contracts.
