UAE’s Masdar Buys 234-MW Valle Solar Project in Spain

Masdar, a clean energy company from Abu Dhabi, said on Thursday that it has finished buying Valle Solar, a 234-megawatt solar power project in Valencia, Spain.

Spanish Solar Project

The company did not share financial details, including how much it paid for the project.

The Valle Solar project, one of the biggest solar power plants in the region, was bought through Masdar’s subsidiary, Saeta. It also has the potential to add a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 259 MW, according to a Masdar statement on Thursday.

This project was started by Genia Solar Energy and Solar Ventures. It is part of Masdar’s plan to expand in Spain and support the growth of renewable energy.

On Monday, Masdar announced a similar deal with Spanish energy company Endesa. It will buy a 49.99% share in four solar plants in Spain for $191.1 million (AED 702 million). These plants will have a total capacity of 446 MW.

The Valle Solar deal moves the project closer to construction in Ayora, Jarafuel, and Zarra. It also highlights Spain’s key role in Europe’s renewable energy industry.

Clean Energy Goals

This new purchase shows Masdar’s commitment to helping Spain switch to clean energy. The company aims to reach 100GW of clean energy worldwide by 2030. Spain is an important part of its European expansion plans.

Masdar also said Valle Solar will support biodiversity and local communities. The project will combine renewable energy with efforts to protect wildlife, reflecting Masdar’s focus on sustainability and social responsibility.

The deal between Saeta, Genia Solar, and Solar Ventures makes Valle Solar a strong example of sustainable development—balancing clean energy with care for the environment and local people.

“This project is a major step toward reducing carbon emissions and boosting the local economy. It will set an example for future renewable energy projects,” Masdar said.

Masdar is owned by UAE’s TAQA (power and water company), ADNOC (national oil company), and Mubadala Investment Company (sovereign wealth fund).

What’s Next?

The 234MW Valle Solar project is expected to start operating in the first half of 2027.
